The Department of Meteorology has forecast showers or thundershowers in several parts of Sri Lanka after 1.00 p.m. today (05).
Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm is likely in some areas of the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva, North Western, Southern and North Central provinces.
The public is advised to take necessary precautions to minimize possible damage caused by temporarily strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Misty conditions are also expected in some areas of the Central, Sabaragamuwa and Uva provinces during the morning.
Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers are expected in several sea areas extending from Kankesanthurai to Matara, via Mannar, Puttalam, Colombo and Galle, during the evening or night.
Winds are expected to be south-westerly, with speeds of around 20–30 kmph, while sea conditions around the island are expected to remain slight.
However, temporarily strong gusty winds of 60–70 kmph and very rough seas may occur during thundershowers.
