US President Donald Trump has said the war with Iran will end “very soon, one way or the other”, warning that Tehran must either reach an agreement with Washington or face further military action.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed that two crude oil tankers caught fire after striking mines in the Strait of Hormuz.
The developments come as Gulf nations condemn Friday’s attack on a Qatari liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said negotiations with mediators over a proposed two-day plan to reopen the strategically important Strait of Hormuz are continuing.
Araghchi also expressed hope that the United States would demonstrate sufficient willingness to pursue a diplomatic solution amid growing tensions.
Separately, Israeli forces killed at least nine Palestinians across the Gaza Strip on Sunday, while an Israeli military operation in Hebron, in the occupied West Bank, entered its 10th consecutive day.
