The internationally renowned writer, who is often embroiled in controversies, tweeted on her verified account on 19 January 2023: “I fell on the floor at my home and went to a private hospital for the internal fixation of my simple femoral neck fracture.
“Doctors did not want to do fixation, they have done my total hip replacement without any indication. Handicapped forever.”
Taslima, herself a qualified physician, said the doctors at the hospital misled her into getting a surgery she did not require, reports our New Delhi correspondent.
Nasreen said she went in for treatment of a knee injury and claimed that “had her hip bones cut out and replaced by an artificial structure, all for money. ”
The author, who has been out of Bangladesh since 1994 following threats to her life by Islamic hardliners, said she had not seen the X-ray report when doctor told her that there was a complete neck femur fracture.
“I had no pain in hip joint, no swelling, I had pain on my knees only. After total hip replacement, I saw the X-ray plate & report and there was no fracture,” she tweeted.
“Dr told me I had fracture neck femur. But did not show me the X-ray. I trusted him. Today I saw the Xray and no fracture is there,” Taslima said.
Replying to a question on her tweet, Taslima replied that she had no osteoarthritis, no rheumatoid arthritis, no joint problem.
She was a critic of Islam.
