A computerized communication system is being developed, according to the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Aviation, to help with port operations.
The Ministry of Ports, Navigation, and Aviation Services cited the fact that there is now a significant delay in port cargo clearance and merchant shipping operations as the rationale for the proposed implementation.
About 35 million dollars will be spent on this project, according to Mr. Nimal Siripala de Silva, the Minister of Ports, Navigation, and Aviation, and the Asian Development Bank has stated its willingness to support this effort.
The port digital communication system will therefore be put into place before the end of this year, the minister added.
