Dullas Alahapperuma, a member of the Freedom People’s Congress, has asked for a one-year postponement of the GCE Ordinary Level Exam.

The Parliamentarian addressed the House today and noted that the GCE Advanced Level examination answer scripts marking backlog was now becoming a problem.

Over 600,000 pupils who took the GCE Ordinary Level exam but were unable to advance to the GCE Advanced Level, according to MP Alahapperuma.

MP Alahapperuma suggested that instead of holding the GCE Ordinary Level test this year, the authorities consider issuing a certificate from the Examination Department stating that all students are qualified to start their Advanced Level studies.

No pupil will be treated unfairly. Additionally, nobody can get a job using their GCE Ordinary Level exam marks, he noted.

This action, according to MP Dullas Alahapperuma, will allow the authorities to conduct the GCE Ordinary Level exam in December and the GCE Advanced Level exam in August once more without doing the students any injustice.

MP Alahapperuma asked the authorities to take his idea into consideration by revealing that a similar decision was made in relation to the London O/Levels during the Coronavirus outbreak and led to a significant concession for students.
