The distribution of urea fertilizer imported from Oman to Sri Lanka will begin today, June 12, according to the Ministry of Agriculture.
On Saturday, June 10, a ship carrying 22,500 metric tons of urea fertilizer docked at the island.
As a result, the ministry said that starting today, the farmers will get this stock of urea fertilizer through the agricultural service centers.
Mahinda Amaraweera, the minister of agriculture, recently said that steps will be done to offer a bundle of urea fertilizer for less than Rs. 5,000.
The Minister also noted that although the private sector has recently raised the cost of a bundle of urea fertilizer, the government is aiming to further lower its cost.
In the meanwhile, Amaraweera asserted that all necessary measures had been done to easily supply the farmers with the appropriate quantities of fertilizer.
Despite the high prices that recently persisted, the Agricultural Ministry has further confirmed that the government has now taken action to provide fertilizers at a discounted price.
