Manusha Nanayakkara, the minister of labor and foreign employment, has criticized SriLankan Airlines for its ongoing flight delays, which he alleges have hampered the process of sending migrant workers from Sri Lanka to South Korea.
Minister Nanayakkara stated in a statement that the recent departure of a group of Sri Lankan migrant workers to South Korea had been delayed due to a roughly 12-hour delay on SriLankan Airlines flight UL 470.
According to Minister Nanayakkara, the process of sending Sri Lankan migrant workers to South Korea on schedule has been seriously hampered by the ongoing aircraft delays.
The 800th group of Sri Lankan migrant workers to be sent abroad was the recently affected group, and all preparations had been made by the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE). They were scheduled to depart for South Korea.
However, the group of 52 migrant workers from Sri Lanka who were headed for employment in the fishing industry were unable to go as planned due to the delay in the SriLankan Airlines aircraft.
The South Korean Human Resources Department, which has offices in Sri Lanka, informed the SLBFE about this, the Minister said.
