According to the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court’s instructions, the bank accounts of six people who have been identified as Board of Directors members of the ‘ONMAX DT’ private company, which is thought to be a pyramid scheme, have been frozen.
Accordingly, it is thought that the relevant bank accounts have deposits totaling Rs. 790 million, and 95 of the company’s accounts have already been suspended.
The Financial Crimes Investigation Division opened an investigation into the company after receiving a report from the director of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka’s (CBSL) financial intelligence unit.
In their complaint, CBSL officers emphasised that ONMAX DT was a verified pyramid scheme. As a result, the Financial Crimes Investigation Division on Wednesday (12 July) presented evidence in this regard before the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court.
Six members of the company’s board of directors, Sampath Sandaruwan, Athula Indika Sampath, Gayashan Abeyratne, Madhuranga Prasanna, Saranga Randika, and Dhananjaya Gayan, had deposits totaling Rs. 790 million in their bank accounts, according to the investigating officers who testified in court at that time.
The court then issued an order suspending the accounts in question as well as the Rs. 790 million.
Although the whole amount of the company’s fraud is yet unknown, the investigating officers estimate that it is at least twenty times greater than the money discovered in the suspended accounts.
The police urged anyone who fell victim to the pyramid scam to come forward and file a complaint in this respect at their local police station since they noted that no public complaints against the plan had been made as of yet.
