On September 30, 2023, Negombo’s Jetwing Blue Hotel hosted a morning event to commemorate Palestine Flag Day. The event, organized jointly by the Sri Lanka Committee for Solidarity with Palestine, Pamunugama YMCA, and Born to Win Relationships of Ja Ela, saw participants from various regions of Sri Lanka.
Distinguished guests, including Ambassadors, High Commissioners, Diplomats, and Clergy members, were in attendance. Notable figures included the High Commissioners of Malaysia, Maldives, and Bangladesh, as well as Ambassadors from Saudi Arabia, Oman, Turkey, Cuba, and Vietnam, along with Diplomats from the Egyptian Embassy.
Solidarity statements were made by the High Commissioners of Malaysia, Indonesia, and Bangladesh, as well as the YMCA. The event featured the cutting of a Palestine Flag Cake, symbolizing support for Palestine. Musical performances by Mr. Iqbal of the Sri Lanka Guitar Association and Mr. Abdullah Omar added a touch of unity and harmony.
This event highlighted global solidarity with Palestine, reinforcing the call for a just and peaceful resolution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
