According to an official, Sri Lanka has set aside a total of USD 30,000 to be utilised for the welfare of Sri Lankans living in Israel in the event of an emergency. This amount is made up of USD 20,000 from the government and USD 10,000 from the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau.
Nimal Bandara, Sri Lanka’s ambassador to Israel, informed the Daily Mirror that the monies had been returned to the embassy and will be used as needed.
After the tension spiked, he said that two Sri Lankans were still missing and one was hurt. The list of foreign nationals impacted by the conflict situation was made public today by the Israeli Foreign Ministry.
Ninety majority of the 8,000 Sri Lankans who work in Israel are carers for the elderly.
The envoy claimed that other regions of the country remain normal despite the unrest in the regions bordering Lebanon and the Gaza Strip.
