The Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) Helicopter Squadron deployed to the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) has been highly commended for successfully carrying out a high-risk casualty evacuation (CASEVAC) operation in a conflict zone.

The 10th Air Force Peacekeeping Squadron, led by Group Captain Uditha de Silva, was praised by the Head of the Central African Republic Peacekeeping Force for its professionalism, systematic approach, and dedication to duty, which contributed to the success of peacekeeping operations.

During the operation, three UN personnel who sustained serious injuries in an unexpected hostile environment were airlifted to safety using an MI-17 helicopter under extremely challenging conditions, including heavy dust and rapidly changing terrain. They were promptly transferred to hospital for emergency medical care.

Special commendation was extended to Wing Commander Ishan Thibbotumunuwe, who served as the Chief Pilot, and Wing Commander Nadun Denetti, who served as the Co-Pilot during the operation.

Since December 2024, the SLAF peacekeeping contingent has conducted 16 missions in the Central African Republic, saving 18 lives despite hazardous and demanding environmental conditions.
