The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a proposal to proceed with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on agricultural cooperation between Sri Lanka and the Republic of Türkiye, aimed at boosting bilateral collaboration in the agricultural sector.

The Cabinet had previously granted approval on 15 February 2021 to sign the MoU, recognizing the potential benefits for the development of agriculture through mutual cooperation. However, the agreement had not yet been finalized.

At the meeting held on 23 September 2025, the Cabinet endorsed the proposal presented by the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Land, and Irrigation to seek formal approval from the current Cabinet to move forward with the signing of the MoU.

Officials noted that the agreement will facilitate knowledge sharing, technological cooperation, and capacity building in agriculture, strengthening ties between Colombo and Ankara.
