The price of gold in Sri Lanka has fallen significantly, driven largely by a notable drop in global market prices, industry sources say.

For the first time in several weeks, the price of a 22-carat gold sovereign has slipped below Rs. 300,000. According to the latest figures from the Colombo Pettah gold market, a 22-carat sovereign is currently trading at around Rs. 298,000.

This reflects a major decrease of Rs. 81,200 compared to October 17, when the price stood at Rs. 379,200.

Meanwhile, the price of a 24-carat gold sovereign has also plunged, dropping from Rs. 410,000 earlier this month to Rs. 322,000 as of today.
