Bodies of 84 Iranian Sailors from Sunken Frigate to Be Repatriated

Iran has announced that the bodies of dozens of sailors who died after the Iranian naval frigate IRIS Dena was sunk in an attack by the United States off the coast of Sri Lanka will soon be returned to the country.

According to international media reports, a statement carried by Al Jazeera citing Fars News Agency said the military’s public relations office confirmed that 84 out of 104 recovered bodies have been identified.

The statement added that the identified bodies will be repatriated to Iran shortly.

It also noted that the repatriation process is being carried out through the efforts of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran in cooperation with the government of Sri Lanka.
