50 Foreign Nationals Arrested in Negombo for Visa Overstay

Officers of the Department of Immigration and Emigration arrested 50 foreign nationals on Tuesday (21) for overstaying their visas in Sri Lanka.

According to authorities, the group includes 47 Chinese nationals, two Malaysians, and one Indian national. The individuals had initially entered the country on business visas but remained after their permitted stay had expired.

The arrests were carried out in the Negombo area following intelligence gathered by the department’s investigation unit, acting under the direction of the Controller General of Immigration and Emigration.

The suspects are currently being held at the Welisara Detention Centre and are expected to be deported.
