Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps says it has shot down a US MQ-9 Reaper drone after the aircraft allegedly violated Iranian airspace, according to Iranian state media reports.
The IRGC claimed the drone was identified as a “hostile aircraft” and brought down after entering Iranian territory. The group also warned that it reserves the right to respond to any further ceasefire violations by the United States.
The development comes amid heightened regional tensions following recent US military strikes on rocket-launch sites, which Washington described as “defensive” operations, while a fragile ceasefire in the region continues to hold.
The MQ-9 Reaper is a long-endurance US surveillance and strike drone that has previously been involved in several incidents across contested Middle Eastern airspace.
