The Department of Meteorology says several parts of the country are expected to experience showers, strong winds, and rough sea conditions today (July 6).

A few showers are forecast in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as in the Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya districts.

Strong winds reaching speeds of 40–50 kmph are expected at times over the western slopes of the Central Hills and across the Northern, North Central, and North Western provinces. Similar windy conditions are also likely in the Ratnapura, Hambantota, and Trincomalee districts.

At sea, a few showers are expected in the coastal waters stretching from Chilaw to Galle via Colombo.

South-westerly winds will prevail over the surrounding sea areas with speeds of 30–40 kmph. Wind speeds may increase to 55–65 kmph at times in the sea areas from Kankasanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota. In the remaining sea areas around the island, winds may strengthen to around 50 kmph at times.

The sea areas from Kankasanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar and from Matara to Pottuvil via Hambantota are expected to be very rough at times, while other surrounding sea areas will remain fairly rough.

Wave heights of approximately 2.0 to 2.5 metres are also expected in the sea areas extending from Chilaw to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle, and Hambantota.

The Department of Meteorology has advised the public, particularly fishermen and those engaged in maritime activities, to exercise caution due to the prevailing adverse weather and sea conditions.
