The University of Colombo has shifted lectures in several faculties to online and hybrid modes for one week following a rise in dengue cases among students.

Vice Chancellor Professor Indika Karunathilaka said the temporary arrangement applies to the Faculties of Arts, Law, Management, Education, and Science.

He revealed that the majority of dengue cases have been reported from the Faculty of Science, with 71 students infected and five currently receiving hospital treatment.

Professor Karunathilaka said the decision was taken to allow affected students adequate time to rest and recover while ensuring academic activities continue without disruption.

He added that the university has introduced several measures to control the situation and is closely monitoring the condition of hospitalized students.

The Vice Chancellor urged students to seek medical attention immediately if they develop fever symptoms and emphasized that the University of Colombo has not been closed, with no plans to suspend operations at this time.
