Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Santosh Jha, together with Dr. Rambabu C., Counsellor (Political) and Head of Chancery, held a meeting with representatives of Bahujana Balaya that lasted more than three hours.
According to Bahujana Balaya, the meeting went beyond a routine courtesy call and reflected India’s continued engagement with a broad range of political and social stakeholders in Sri Lanka, including emerging nationalist movements.
The discussions covered Sri Lanka–India relations and trade cooperation, regional security, the 13th Amendment, North-South community relations, and India’s system of governance, democratic institutions and diplomatic principles.
Bahujana Balaya said the meeting was not used to criticize the Sri Lankan Government or President, but focused instead on matters of national importance.
The group emphasized that constructive dialogue and mutual respect are essential for building trust and strengthening long-term cooperation between the two countries.
As a gesture of appreciation, Bahujana Balaya presented High Commissioner Santosh Jha with a replica of the Naga Raksha mask, a traditional Sri Lankan cultural symbol associated with protection, wisdom and vigilance.
The delegation included Chairman Milinda Rajapaksha, General Secretary Iranga Mendis, National Organiser Piyal Dharshana Guruge, Media Secretary Anjana Udara, Deputy Chairwoman Kumudini Bandara and Executive Committee Member Sonala Gunawardene.
Bahujana Balaya expressed appreciation for the openness of the Indian representatives, stressing that continued engagement between India and Sri Lanka’s national stakeholders is important for promoting peace, stability and shared prosperity.
