Showers are expected in several parts of Sri Lanka today (August 18), with fairly strong winds forecast in a number of areas, according to the Department of Meteorology.
Showers will occur at times in the Sabaragamuwa Province and in the Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts, while several spells of showers are expected in the Western and North Western provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts.
Showers or thundershowers may develop at a few places in the Uva Province and in the Ampara and Batticaloa districts after 2.00 p.m. Mainly dry weather is expected elsewhere.
Meanwhile, winds of around 30–40 kmph are expected at times over the western slopes of the Central Hills, as well as in the Northern, North Central, North Western and Southern provinces and the Trincomalee District.
The public has been advised to take necessary precautions against temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
