Member of Parliament and former Minister Ravi Karunanayake was taken into custody today after appearing before the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) to provide a statement.
Karunanayake is facing allegations that three employees recruited for a special project of the National Lottery Board were allegedly assigned to carry out political activities on his behalf, resulting in a financial loss to the Government.
He had reportedly been summoned by the Commission on several occasions to provide a statement in connection with the investigation but had failed to appear.
CIABOC officers subsequently visited his residence recently, following which Karunanayake appeared before the Commission today, where he was taken into custody.
