Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has arrived in the Maldives for a two-day state visit aimed at further strengthening bilateral relations between Malaysia and the Maldives.
Prime Minister Anwar arrived in Malé on Monday (14) and was received by Maldivian President Dr Mohamed Muizzu at Velana International Airport (VIA).
The state visit, taking place from September 14 to 15, 2026, was made at the invitation of President Muizzu.
The visit is expected to provide an opportunity for the two countries to discuss ways of expanding cooperation across a range of areas of mutual interest.
Strengthening Malaysia–Maldives Relations
The visit comes as Malaysia and the Maldives seek to deepen their longstanding ties, particularly in areas including trade, investment, tourism, education and people-to-people relations.
As two countries with strong connections to the Indian Ocean region, Malaysia and the Maldives also have shared interests in promoting regional cooperation, economic development and stability.
Prime Minister Anwar’s visit is expected to include high-level discussions with President Muizzu and other senior Maldivian officials.
