In a notice issued on Tuesday (October 13), the Consulate urged prospective pilgrims to exercise caution when making travel arrangements.
Sri Lankans intending to undertake Umrah have been advised to remain in close contact with their respective Umrah group representatives or travel agents to receive updates on any changes to their travel plans.
The Consulate also stressed the importance of making appropriate contingency arrangements to deal with emergencies and unforeseen circumstances during the journey.
The advisory comes amid concerns over regional security developments that could affect air travel to and from Saudi Arabia.
According to reports, missile and drone attacks targeting Saudi Arabia by Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels have raised security concerns and disrupted flight operations. The reported attacks on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh have also been linked to flight cancellations and a suspension of airport operations until October 17.
Meanwhile, SriLankan Airlines has temporarily suspended flights to Riyadh and services between Colombo and Dammam until October 18, citing security concerns in the region.
