Around 210 million registered voters in the United States are expected to cast their ballots on Tuesday (November 3) in the 2026 midterm elections, which will determine the balance of power in Congress and influence President Donald Trump’s remaining time in office.
All 435 seats in the House of Representatives and 35 of the 100 seats in the Senate are being contested. Voters in 36 states will also elect their governors.
The election comes amid political tensions, with the US Supreme Court rejecting President Trump’s bid to block the counting of 20,000 mail-in ballots in California.
The ruling came just hours after Trump delivered a nationally televised speech in which he described the United States as “booming”.
Meanwhile, Democrats have rallied behind their Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed, following controversy over Democratic Representative Haley Stevens’ surprise endorsement of his Republican opponent, Mike Rogers.
The outcome of Tuesday’s elections will determine whether Republicans retain control of Congress or Democrats gain ground, potentially reshaping the political landscape during the remainder of Trump’s presidency.
