President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has expressed his support for the “Walk for Peace” pilgrimage, which begins today (21) in Sri Lanka, emphasizing its significance in fostering mindfulness, loving-kindness, unity, and harmony among all communities.
In a statement shared on ‘X’, the President invited the public to reflect on the nation’s enduring values of peace and compassion as the sacred journey sets off from Dambulla. The procession will carry the Sacred Relics of the Buddha along with a Bodhi tree sapling.
The internationally recognized pilgrimage will commence with the arrival of a delegation of seven Buddhist monks led by Vietnamese Venerable Pannakara Thera. Adding a symbolic touch to the journey, a dog named “Aloka” will accompany the procession.
Scheduled to take place from April 21 to 28 under full state patronage, the programme will also feature Venerable Pannakara Thera carrying a sacred Bodhi sapling obtained from the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi, highlighting the deep spiritual importance of the event.
