The Department of Meteorology says the prevailing showery conditions across Sri Lanka are expected to continue over the next few days due to a low-level atmospheric disturbance in the vicinity of the island.

According to the latest forecast, showers or thundershowers are expected in most parts of the country after 1.00 p.m. today (07).

Morning showers are also likely in the Western, North-Western and Northern provinces, as well as in the districts of Trincomalee, Galle and Matara.

Fairly heavy rainfall exceeding 75 mm is expected at some locations in the Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva, Southern and North-Central provinces.

The Meteorology Department has urged the public to take necessary precautions against temporary localized strong winds and lightning associated with thundershowers.

Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers are also forecast in the sea areas around the island.

Winds are expected to be south-westerly with speeds of 25–35 kmph, while sea conditions around the island will be slight to moderate. However, temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas may occur during thundershowers.
