Former State Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan, popularly known as Pillayan, has been remanded until July 13 in connection with investigations into five murders that took place in several areas of the Eastern Province.
The order was issued by the Batticaloa Magistrate’s Court when the case was taken up today (30).
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) had informed the court on June 15 about the 2008 killings and named Chandrakanthan as the third suspect in the investigation.
At the previous hearing, the Magistrate instructed Welikada Prison authorities to produce Chandrakanthan before court at the next hearing.
Accordingly, he was produced before the Batticaloa Magistrate’s Court today under tight security, following which the court ordered that he be further remanded until July 13.
