Several parts of Sri Lanka are expected to experience showers today (July 8), while mainly dry weather will prevail across the rest of the country, according to the Department of Meteorology.
Several spells of showers are forecast in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, as well as in the Galle, Matara, Kandy, and Nuwara Eliya districts.
Strong winds of 40–50 km/h are expected at times over the western slopes of the central hills, the Northern, North Central, Central, Sabaragamuwa, and North Western provinces, as well as in the Hambantota and Trincomalee districts.
At sea, a few showers are expected in the coastal waters extending from Chilaw to Galle via Colombo. South-westerly winds will prevail at 30–40 km/h, with speeds increasing to 55–60 km/h at times in the sea areas from Kankasanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar and from Hambantota to Pottuvil. Winds may also reach up to 50 km/h in the other sea areas around the island.
The sea areas from Kankasanthurai to Puttalam via Mannar and from Hambantota to Pottuvil will be very rough at times, while the remaining sea areas around the island will be fairly rough.
