The Department of Meteorology has forecast showers and thundershowers at times today in the Central, Sabaragamuwa, Uva, Eastern and Southern provinces, with cloudy skies expected to prevail over these areas.
Heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm is likely at some locations in the Sabaragamuwa Province and the Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts.
Several spells of showers are also expected in the Western, North-Western and North-Central provinces, while showers or thundershowers may develop in parts of the Mullaitivu District after 2.00 p.m.
Meanwhile, strong winds of 40 to 50 kmph are expected at times over the North-Central, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Central and North-Western provinces.
The Meteorology Department has urged the public to take necessary precautions to minimize the risk of damage from temporary localized strong winds and lightning associated with thundershowers.
