Iran has launched a wave of retaliatory missile and drone attacks against US-linked military facilities across the Middle East, following a fresh round of American strikes on targets in Iran.
The latest escalation marks one of the most serious exchanges between Washington and Tehran in recent weeks, raising concerns over a broader regional conflict.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it fired ballistic missiles at US military positions in Jordan, including a US Marine facility near Aqaba. Tehran also claimed attacks against US facilities in Iraq, while missile and drone strikes were reported in Bahrain and Kuwait.
Jordan’s Armed Forces said 13 Iranian ballistic missiles entered Jordanian airspace. Ten were intercepted and destroyed, while the remaining three landed in remote areas. Authorities reported no deaths or injuries.
The IRGC claimed that US personnel were killed in the attacks. However, two US officials told Reuters that preliminary assessments indicated there were no US casualties in Jordan.
Bahrain said its air-defence systems intercepted Iranian drones, while Kuwait’s military reported that its air-defence forces were responding to missile and drone attacks.
The Iranian strikes came after the United States launched a new wave of attacks against IRGC targets in southern Iran.
US Central Command said the operation targeted air-defence systems, radar installations, maritime assets, mine-laying capabilities and communications infrastructure. Washington said the strikes were carried out after the IRGC attempted attacks against commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and US personnel operating in the region.
Meanwhile, Iranian authorities reported that a US strike hit a residential building in Sirik County in southern Iran while a wedding celebration was taking place.
The Iranian Red Crescent initially reported that four people, including a child, were killed and more than 50 others wounded. Later reports from Iran raised the death toll to five, with dozens more injured.
US President Donald Trump had previously warned Iran against retaliating, threatening that Washington would launch substantially stronger attacks if Tehran responded to the US strikes.
