Parliament is scheduled to vote on the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution Bill and the Judicature (Amendment) Bill at 7.00 p.m. today (25), following the conclusion of the two-day Second Reading debate.
The debate on the two Bills entered its second and final day today, after commencing yesterday (24).
Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne presented the Supreme Court’s determination on the two Bills to Parliament on September 22.
According to the determination, the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution Bill does not require approval at a referendum and can be passed with a special two-thirds majority in Parliament.
The Speaker also informed the House that the Judicature (Amendment) Bill could be passed with a simple majority.
The votes on both Bills are scheduled to be held after the conclusion of today’s parliamentary debate.
