President Ranil Wickremesinghe issued an Extraordinary Gazette Notification on April 17, 2023, in order to exercise his authority under Section 2 of the Essential Public Services Act, No. 61 of 1979.
The notification designates four industries as essential public services, including those involved in the provision of electricity, the supply or distribution of petroleum products and fuel, postal service, and all forms of labor involved in the upkeep, care, feeding, and treatment of patients in hospitals, nursing homes, dispensaries, and other similar institutions. This Gazette Notification has become active.
