India has denounced the Khalistani posters that called for violence against Indian diplomats serving in Canada, stating that such posters are unacceptable.
Arindam Bagchi, a spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), stressed on Thursday that India strongly condemned them, adding, “The matter has been strongly taken up with the Canadian authorities both in New Delhi and in Ottawa. We have urged the Canadian government to do all possible to protect the security of our missions in Canada as well as the safety of our diplomats.
In response to inquiries at the weekly media briefing, Bagchi stated that it was concerning how anti-Indian groups headquartered in Canada and other countries were abusing freedom of expression.
We have read media reports about the prime minister’s remarks. The problem is not with freedom of expression, but rather with how it is being abused to support terrorism, separatism, and bloodshed.
The MEA Spokesperson referred to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar’s remark that nations shouldn’t cater to vote-bank politics, noting that such threats have previously been made in nations like the US, Australia, and the UK.
Following the distribution of Khalistani posters that contained the names of Indian officials, Canada had already reassured India of the security of its diplomats. The “promotional material” making the rounds prior to a rally for Khalistan was described as “unacceptable” by Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly.
The announcement came after India requested that its allies, including the US, UK, and Canada, refrain from fostering “extremist Khalistani ideology” since it is “not good” for relations.
In response to a different query, Bagchi stated that on July 2, extremists attempted to set the Indian consulate in San Francisco on fire. Local authorities swiftly brought it under control.
We vehemently denounce such assaults on Indian diplomatic missions abroad. The MEA Spokesperson stated, “We have brought up the matter with the US side, and US authorities have replied very immediately at very senior levels.
