Israel launched an airstrike on the southern suburbs of Beirut on Wednesday, claiming to have killed Malek Balou, a commander of Hezbollah’s elite Radwan Force.
According to Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency, Israeli warplanes targeted the Ghobeiri area in Beirut’s southern suburbs, triggering a loud explosion and causing extensive damage in the vicinity.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed the strike, stating that he and Defence Minister Israel Katz had instructed the military to carry out the operation.
In a statement posted on Telegram, Netanyahu said members of the Radwan Force were responsible for attacks on Israeli settlements and military personnel.
“No terrorist has immunity – Israel’s long hand will catch every enemy and murderer,” he stated, adding that the operation was part of efforts to ensure security for residents in northern Israel.
Hezbollah has not yet officially responded to Israel’s claim regarding the killing of Malek Balou.
