Prime Minister and Minister of Education Harini Amarasuriya announced that Grade 06 education reforms will be implemented from January 2027, with preparatory work already underway.
Addressing Parliament today (05), she stated that a committee appointed to review previously printed learning modules—identified as having issues—has completed its evaluation and finalized recommended revisions. The updated modules are scheduled to be sent for printing this month.
The Prime Minister further noted that teacher training under the new reform framework will begin in June, with necessary funding already allocated. Awareness and briefing sessions for teachers, parents, and students are set to commence in July.
She made these remarks in response to a question raised by Opposition MP Chamara Samapath Dassanayake.
